What's Happening?
Delaware State University (DSU) is developing a new Center for Economic Mobility. This initiative aims to connect students with career preparation, professional mentors, and employers earlier in their college careers. The center builds upon DSU's existing
partnership with Braven, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping college students develop essential skills, experience, and professional networks for successful entry into the workforce. DSU President Dr. Tony Allen stated that the collaboration with Braven will enhance the university's current career services through coordinated programs and partnerships, while also establishing research capabilities to measure student outcomes. DSU became Braven's first public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) partner in spring 2024, launching a five-year agreement that introduced a three-credit Braven Leadership Accelerator course. This course, which combines online coursework with small-group sessions led by working professionals, is projected to reach between 2,100 and 2,500 students during its initial five years. The curriculum focuses on developing skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, networking, and self-directed leadership.
