What's Happening?
In Xi'an, China, the BoGuan multimodal large language model (LLM) and 5G-A technology are revolutionizing digital cultural tourism. The Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group, in collaboration with Huawei and other partners, has implemented these technologies
to enhance visitor engagement with cultural relics and history. The BoGuan LLM, launched in September 2025, is the first commercial multimodal LLM for cultural tourism, designed to preserve cultural heritage. It utilizes a vast dataset to generate accurate multimodal content, supporting digital relic presentations and the creation of digital IP. The 5G-A network, deployed by China Telecom Shaanxi and Huawei, supports these digital tourism apps, offering high-speed connectivity crucial for live streaming and social media interactions at popular tourist sites like the Grand Tang Mall.
Why It's Important?
The integration of AI and 5G-A in cultural tourism represents a significant advancement in how historical and cultural sites can be preserved and experienced. This initiative not only enhances the visitor experience but also stimulates economic growth by attracting more tourists and increasing engagement with cultural sites. The use of advanced technologies in tourism can serve as a model for other regions looking to boost their cultural tourism sectors. Moreover, the success of these technologies in Xi'an could encourage further investment in digital tourism solutions, potentially leading to broader adoption across the global tourism industry.
