What's Happening?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the CG Power Semiconductor Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This facility is part of India's broader initiative to establish a robust semiconductor manufacturing
ecosystem, a sector where the country previously had no significant presence. The CG Power OSAT facility is one of the 12 semiconductor projects approved nationwide, with six located in Gujarat. The facility, developed under the 'India Semiconductor Mission', represents an investment of over Rs 7,500 crore. It will provide comprehensive semiconductor assembly and testing services, including wafer sorting, assembly, testing, and logistics support. Once fully operational, it is expected to produce up to five billion semiconductor chips annually, serving sectors such as automotive, telecommunications, and the Internet of Things.
