Dutch speed skater Femke Kok broke the 12-year-old world record in the 500 meters at the ISU World Cup event in Salt Lake City, United States, with a time of 36.09 seconds. She surpassed the previous record set
by South Korean skater Lee Sang-hwa in November 2013. The current World Cup champion in the women's 500 meters is American Erin Jackson.
