What's Happening?
Dr. Thrilok Chandra K. V., Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, visited the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) to evaluate and discuss strategies for enhancing cruise tourism. The visit aimed to boost Karnataka's visibility in the cruise tourism sector
both nationally and internationally. The review included passenger handling protocols, immigration and customs procedures, and the existing cruise terminal infrastructure. The visit coincided with the arrival of the M.S. Seven Seas Navigator, marking the end of the current cruise season. The port hosted 5 cruise vessel calls and facilitated 2,079 passengers, highlighting its growing role as a cruise tourism hub.
Why It's Important?
The visit underscores the strategic importance of New Mangalore Port as a gateway to Karnataka's diverse tourist attractions, including beaches, temples, and eco-tourism sites. By enhancing cruise tourism infrastructure, the region can attract more international and domestic cruise liners, boosting local tourism and economy. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to position Coastal Karnataka as a premier cruise destination, potentially increasing tourist footfall and economic benefits for the region. The collaboration between NMPA and tourism authorities is crucial for sustainable development and promotion of cruise tourism.
