What's Happening?
C&S, formerly known as the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, has launched a three-year initiative to engage young people in civic problem-solving. Supported by $25 million in funding from various foundations, the program aims to reach 20
million young people by 2029. The initiative builds on existing programs like Carnegie Young Leaders, which provides funding and mentorship for youth-led community projects. C&S emphasizes the importance of diverse viewpoints in addressing local challenges, promoting collaboration and negotiation skills among participants.
Why It's Important?
The initiative addresses the growing need for civic engagement among young people in the face of political polarization and threats to democracy. By equipping youth with the skills to tackle community issues, C&S aims to foster a generation of engaged citizens who can contribute to societal progress. The program's focus on practical problem-solving and collaboration across differences is crucial for building a resilient civic fabric. As young people will shape the future, empowering them to participate in civic life is a strategic investment in the nation's democratic health.
