The South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA) and the City of Columbia have partnered to honor Purple Heart Veterans during Purple Heart Viola Week. This marks the first joint proclamation presentation for the event, which coincides with
National Purple Heart Day on August 7. The ceremony took place at Finlay Park, designated as South Carolina's first Purple Heart Park. SCDVA Secretary Todd B. McCaffrey and Columbia Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann presented proclamations to recognize the sacrifices of combat-wounded service members. The event aims to raise awareness and support for wounded veterans and their families.
