What's Happening?
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has introduced Hong Kong's first hydrogen-powered EV charging system for a commercial building at its North Point headquarters. This innovative system uses a flexible hydrogen power generation solution
to provide additional electricity without requiring extensive upgrades to the building's existing power supply. The project, in collaboration with CIMC Enric, utilizes a bottled-hydrogen supply model, offering a zero-carbon power supply for EV chargers.
Why It's Important?
This development marks a significant step in advancing green transport and low-carbon transformation in Hong Kong. By utilizing locally produced hydrogen, the system provides a sustainable and flexible solution for commercial buildings facing power capacity limitations. The project demonstrates the feasibility of hydrogen applications in urban environments, supporting Hong Kong's journey towards carbon neutrality and aligning with national goals for hydrogen energy development.
What's Next?
Towngas plans to continue expanding hydrogen applications, including providing green electricity for construction sites and utilizing its extensive gas pipeline network for hydrogen extraction. The company aims to support the government's goal of establishing Hong Kong as an international hub for hydrogen technology by 2027, contributing to the city's green energy transition.
