What's Happening?
Southern University Law Center (SULC) and Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) have announced a new partnership to create an accelerated law program. This initiative, known as the 3+3 Accelerated Law Program, allows eligible SUNO students to transition
into SULC to pursue a law degree. The agreement is set to last for up to three years. Alvin Washington, the chancellor of SULC, emphasized the collaboration's goal of expanding educational opportunities and creating clear pathways to professional success for students. This program is part of the Southern University System's broader mission to enhance educational excellence and student success.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between SUNO and SULC is significant as it provides a streamlined path for students interested in law, potentially reducing the time and cost associated with obtaining a law degree. This initiative could increase the number of qualified legal professionals, particularly from underrepresented communities, thereby contributing to greater diversity in the legal field. By facilitating a quicker transition from undergraduate to law school, the program supports students in achieving their career goals more efficiently, which can have positive implications for the legal industry and society at large.
What's Next?
The program is expected to begin soon, with eligible students from SUNO starting their transition to SULC. Both institutions will likely monitor the program's progress and impact on student success. If successful, this model could be expanded or adapted by other universities within the Southern University System or beyond, potentially influencing how legal education is structured in the future.
