What's Happening?
A study has evaluated the impact of teledentistry as a tool for preventing early childhood caries (ECC) by promoting healthy habits among children aged 0-5. Conducted with 64 parents and 118 supervised
undergraduate students, the study involved teleconsultations to collect caries risk information and educate parents. Results showed significant improvements in oral hygiene practices, such as increased use of fluoride toothpaste and higher brushing frequency. The study highlights the potential of teledentistry to implement healthy habits in early childhood, reducing the risk of ECC and chronic non-communicable diseases.
Why It's Important?
The use of teledentistry represents a significant advancement in pediatric dental care, offering a scalable and accessible solution for promoting oral health. By facilitating education and habit changes remotely, teledentistry can reach a broader audience, particularly in underserved areas. This approach not only helps prevent ECC but also contributes to overall health by reducing the risk of chronic diseases linked to poor oral hygiene. The study underscores the potential of digital health technologies to transform preventive care and improve health outcomes.
