Uber has launched a new initiative to transform its 1.4 million driver partners in India into a workforce for AI data labeling. This program, active in 12 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, allows drivers to earn additional income by completing micro-tasks on the Uber app. These tasks involve tagging objects in photos for Uber's data-labeling platform, Uber AI Solutions. The platform already serves clients in sectors such as generative artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and tech startups, including companies like Niantic and Aurora. The initiative also includes tasks like sorting items priced above $50 in retail shopping invoices. Megha Yethadka, global head at Uber AI Solutions, noted that this is the first time digital tasks are being offered to driver partners in India, although earnings from these tasks were not disclosed.
