What's Happening?
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) has announced the establishment of a Geothermal Center of Excellence on the National Laboratory of the Rockies’ (NLR) campus. Located at NLR’s South Table Mountain
Campus in Golden, Colorado, the center aims to advance geothermal energy through enhanced collaboration, research, and innovation. This initiative will bring together leaders from industry, the DOE, NLR, and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to address high-impact technical barriers and serve as a gateway for the geothermal industry to access the expertise of national laboratories. The center will also integrate expertise from other national laboratories, including Argonne, Brookhaven, Idaho, Los Alamos, Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, Oak Ridge, Pacific Northwest, and Sandia, to make measurable progress toward scaling U.S. geothermal power.
