What's Happening?
The Society for Audiovisual Heritage, based in Buenos Aires, has introduced the Latam Classics label at the Lumière Film Festival’s International Classic Film Market in Lyon. This initiative aims to promote
and provide international access to Latin American classic cinema. The label's debut features a catalogue of restored films from various Latin American countries, including works by notable directors such as Glauber Rocha and Fernando 'Pino' Solanas. The Society collaborates with rights holders and institutions to restore these films, enhancing their global presence and preserving Latin American cinematic heritage.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Latam Classics label is significant as it strengthens the international circulation of Latin American films, preserving cultural heritage and promoting diversity in global cinema. By restoring and showcasing these films, the Society for Audiovisual Heritage helps maintain the historical and cultural narratives of Latin America, offering audiences worldwide access to these stories. This initiative not only supports the film industry but also contributes to cultural diplomacy and the global appreciation of Latin American arts.
