Air India is set to launch a new nonstop route from Mumbai to Toronto starting October 25, 2026. The service will operate three times a week using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. This new route is part of Air India's Northern winter 2026/27 season plans
and aims to enhance connectivity between India and Canada. Additionally, Air India has announced changes to its Delhi-Toronto service, which will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 from January 2027, replacing the older 777-300ER aircraft. The Delhi-Toronto route will resume on September 2, 2026, with a stop in Vienna.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Mumbai-Toronto route is a strategic move by Air India to strengthen its presence in the North American market. This new service provides a direct travel option for passengers, reducing travel time and enhancing convenience. The route is expected to cater to the strong demand for travel between India and Canada, driven by the Indian diaspora, business links, and student traffic. By upgrading its fleet and expanding its network, Air India aims to improve its competitive edge against other international carriers and offer a better travel experience to its passengers.
What's Next?
As Air India prepares to launch the Mumbai-Toronto route, the airline is likely to focus on further expanding its long-haul network and upgrading its fleet. The introduction of new aircraft and improved onboard products is expected to enhance the passenger experience and attract more travelers. Air India's strategic expansion in the North American market is anticipated to boost its market share and strengthen its position as a leading carrier in the India-Canada corridor. The airline's ongoing transformation efforts are expected to continue, with a focus on modernizing its fleet and enhancing connectivity.
