What's Happening?
A series of avalanches in the Austrian Alps resulted in the deaths of eight people. The avalanches occurred in the Grossarl Valley and Bad Hofgastein in the Salzburg region, as well as in Pusterwald in the Styria
region. Four skiers died in the Grossarl Valley, while a woman was killed in Bad Hofgastein. Additionally, three Czech ski tourers lost their lives in Pusterwald. The avalanches were triggered by fresh snowfall that was poorly bonded to older snow layers, creating hazardous conditions. Rescue operations involved over 200 personnel and several helicopters, but the precarious situation made recovery efforts challenging.
