What's Happening?
The Valley Ski Club, located between the counties of Paintearth and Flagstaff, has been awarded nearly $96,000 from the provincial government as part of a $7 million investment to enhance sport and recreation infrastructure. This funding will be used
to upgrade and improve the energy efficiency of snow-making equipment at the ski club. The grant is part of The Active Communities Initiative, which aims to support community groups, non-profits, and societies in building or enhancing active spaces. The initiative is expected to stimulate over $60 million in economic activity and create employment opportunities across the province.
Why It's Important?
The investment in the Valley Ski Club is significant as it supports local economies and promotes community engagement through improved recreational facilities. By enhancing the ski club's infrastructure, the grant not only benefits the local community by providing better access to recreational activities but also contributes to the region's economic development. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to encourage active lifestyles and community well-being, which can lead to long-term health benefits for residents. Additionally, the economic activity generated by such projects can have a ripple effect, supporting local businesses and creating jobs.
What's Next?
A new funding window for The Active Communities Initiative grant will open in the spring of 2026, providing further opportunities for communities to apply for support in developing recreational infrastructure. As more projects are funded, it is expected that additional communities will benefit from enhanced facilities, contributing to a healthier and more active population. The continued investment in recreational infrastructure may also encourage other regions to seek similar funding, potentially leading to a broader network of improved community spaces across the province.
