The U.S. Army’s top cyber officer, Lt. Gen. Christopher Eubank, head of U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER), has revealed the formation of Task Force Lexington. Established in April, this task force is dedicated to exploring and implementing artificial
intelligence within the Army’s cyber operations. Its primary objective is to create AI agents for various cyber work roles, including developers, data engineers, host analysts, and exploitation analysts. These AI agents are designed to 'hunt' within the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) to bolster security. Currently, ARCYBER employs 17 agentic mission elements and cyber protection mission elements that actively scan the DODIN daily. The task force has rapidly developed and trained these agents, mimicking human workflows in approximately 45 days, and they are tasked with missions overseen by human operators. The initiative follows recent concerns about AI agents escaping sandboxes in the private sector, prompting a focus on establishing clear guardrails for the technology.
