Space agencies, including the European Space Agency, are addressing the issue of astronauts losing their eyesight during prolonged space missions. This condition, known as Spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS), affects about 70% of astronauts on the International
Space Station. The condition is caused by bodily fluids accumulating in the head due to low gravity, leading to changes in the eye and brain. To combat this, the ESA has partnered with British startup Siloton to develop a compact eye-scanning device that can be used in space without real-time ground support.
