What's Happening?
NIBE Group has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Defence Manufacturing Complex in Shirdi, Maharashtra, focusing on indigenous defence manufacturing. The facility will produce advanced artillery systems, missile technologies, and rocket systems, with a capacity
for 155mm ammunition shells. The complex also includes a Bio-CNG and hydrogen fuel plant, and facilities for space technologies. The inauguration was attended by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, highlighting India's push for strategic self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
Why It's Important?
The new complex is a significant step in India's 'Make in India' initiative, aiming to reduce dependence on imports and enhance domestic defence capabilities. By focusing on next-generation warfare systems, the facility supports India's strategic objectives and positions the country as a global defence manufacturing hub. The project is expected to create over 3,000 direct jobs, contributing to economic growth and technological innovation in the region.
