Waitrose has partnered with Polytag, a labelling and tracking specialist, to improve plastic recycling data collection. The initiative involves using invisible labels on packaging, detectable at recycling facilities,
to verify recycling rates and gather consumer data on plastic management. Initially, the scheme targets Waitrose's own-label fresh milk range, with plans to expand to other products. This collaboration aims to provide insights for Waitrose and the UK Government to better engage consumers in recycling processes. The initiative has already saved 370kg of CO2 and recycled 636kg of plastic, earning recognition at the 2024 edie awards.
