What's Happening?
Dr. Ed Nowottnick has been serving as the program scientist for NASA's Radiation Sciences Program within the Earth Science Division since March 2025. His work focuses on reducing uncertainties in aerosols
and clouds, which impact the Earth's atmospheric radiation budget. Dr. Nowottnick is involved in several key NASA missions, including the Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA) and the Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecology (PACE) missions. His extensive experience at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and involvement in global aerosol modeling and field campaigns contribute to his leadership in this critical area of research.
Why It's Important?
Dr. Nowottnick's leadership in the Radiation Sciences Program is crucial for advancing our understanding of atmospheric processes and their impact on climate change. His work on aerosols and clouds is vital for improving climate models and informing policy decisions related to environmental protection and climate mitigation. The research conducted under his guidance supports NASA's broader mission to understand and protect our planet, contributing to global efforts to address climate change. Dr. Nowottnick's expertise and leadership are instrumental in driving scientific discoveries that have far-reaching implications for environmental policy and public awareness.
