A Fijian rugby player, Saimoni Vunilagi, who was part of the Japanese professional team Kyushu KV, has died from suspected heatstroke. Vunilagi was hospitalized after a training session in Fukuoka, where temperatures reached 35 degrees Celsius. His death
highlights the severe heat conditions Japan is currently experiencing, with the country recording its hottest summer on record last year. The fire and disaster management agency reported that nearly 18,600 people were hospitalized for heatstroke between July 20 and 26, with 45 fatalities. The extreme heat has also affected wildlife, with three lions at a Tokyo zoo dying from suspected heatstroke.
