What's Happening?
A recent expo in Jerusalem, named 'Olim Al Madim', brought together over 400 young immigrants aged 17 to 22, who are preparing for mandatory service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Organized by the Nefesh B’Nefesh-Friends of the IDF Lone Soldiers
Program, in partnership with several Israeli organizations, the event aimed to assist these young individuals, many of whom will serve as lone soldiers without close family support in Israel. The expo provided practical guidance on enlistment procedures, service conditions, and academic opportunities. The event comes in response to a significant increase in Aliyah inquiries following recent conflicts, highlighting the commitment of these young immigrants to integrate into Israeli society through military service.
Why It's Important?
The expo is crucial as it addresses the unique challenges faced by young immigrants who choose to serve in the IDF, often without family support. This initiative not only aids in their smooth transition into military life but also strengthens their connection to Israel. The rising interest in Aliyah, particularly among young adults, underscores a growing sense of mission and identity with Israel, which could have long-term implications for Israeli society and its demographic composition. The support provided by the expo helps ensure that these individuals are well-prepared and supported, potentially leading to more successful and meaningful military service experiences.
