What's Happening?
Ascension Saint Thomas (AST) has announced the appointment of Jake Golich as the first president and CEO of the new Ascension Saint Thomas Clarksville Hospital. Concurrently, AST has established an inaugural Community Advisory Board to guide the development
of the $148.5 million hospital and integrated health campus. Golich brings nearly two decades of healthcare leadership experience, including roles at HCA Healthcare’s TriStar Division. The advisory board comprises local leaders, including Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden as Chair, and will provide community input to ensure the new facility meets local needs. The hospital, expected to open in 2028, will initially feature 44 inpatient beds, expandable to 132, and offer a comprehensive range of services including emergency care, surgery, cardiology, and women’s health.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant for Clarksville and Montgomery County as it marks a major step forward in expanding healthcare access and services in a rapidly growing region. The appointment of a dedicated president and the formation of a community advisory board signal a commitment to local needs and integration into the community. The new hospital is projected to create approximately 250 hospital jobs and generate an estimated annual economic impact of $316 million, supporting over 1,300 direct and indirect jobs. This substantial investment in healthcare infrastructure will not only improve patient care but also serve as a significant economic driver, fostering growth and stability in the local economy. The community-led approach aims to ensure the hospital's services are tailored to the specific demands of the population it serves.
What's Next?
With Jake Golich at the helm and the Community Advisory Board in place, the focus will now shift to the continued development and construction of the Ascension Saint Thomas Clarksville Hospital. The board will begin its work of providing community insights and guidance on the hospital's design, services, and operational plans. Golich will be instrumental in building the hospital's leadership team, recruiting staff, and establishing operational protocols in preparation for its anticipated opening in 2028. Further announcements are expected regarding construction milestones, specific service offerings, and community engagement initiatives as the project progresses. The hospital will also work on establishing partnerships with existing healthcare providers and community organizations to ensure a cohesive healthcare ecosystem.
Beyond the Headlines
The establishment of a new hospital and integrated health campus in Clarksville has broader implications beyond immediate healthcare access and economic impact. It signifies a long-term commitment to the health and well-being of the community, potentially influencing public health outcomes, attracting new residents, and supporting regional growth. The emphasis on community input through the advisory board sets a precedent for collaborative healthcare development, ensuring that the facility is not just a medical institution but a community asset. Ethically, this project highlights the responsibility of healthcare providers to adapt to demographic shifts and address evolving healthcare needs. It also underscores the complex interplay between healthcare, economic development, and community planning in rapidly expanding urban areas, setting a model for future regional healthcare investments.
