What's Happening?
The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is set to introduce formal courses in quantum technology as part of a strategic initiative to position the state at the forefront of next-generation computing and artificial intelligence.
This move follows a meeting with a delegation from IIT Madras, where Naidu emphasized the importance of equipping students with skills relevant to quantum computing and AI. The initiative aims to build a knowledge-driven economy through advanced research, digital infrastructure, and industry-academia collaboration. The plan includes a four-phase rollout over two years, starting next year, to provide structured exposure to AI and emerging technologies at various educational levels. The state aims to train over 50,000 technology students in quantum skills and design specialized curricula by January 2026. The initiative also includes the establishment of computer laboratories in schools and consultations with the Union government to align infrastructure investments with national digital education programs.

The Andhra Pradesh government plans to host a Students Partnership Summit by January 2026, providing a platform for students to showcase innovations and connect with academia and industry. The initiative will extend beyond private institutions to include government schools, focusing on introducing quantum awareness for students in Classes 7, 8, and 9. The government will also initiate consultations with the Union government to align infrastructure investments with national digital education programs, leveraging the Centre's National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) to scale up access to high-quality courses in quantum and related domains.
