What's Happening?
Eurostar has announced the launch of direct train services from London to Antwerp starting December 2026. This new service will include four daily trains extending from Brussels to Antwerp, reducing the need for passengers to change trains in Brussels.
The journey from London to Antwerp will take approximately 2 hours and 41 minutes. However, there are currently no direct return services from Antwerp to London due to the lack of UK border and customs facilities at Antwerpen-Centraal station. Passengers will need to change trains in Brussels for UK immigration checks, adding 50 minutes to the return journey.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of direct Eurostar services to Antwerp is a significant development for travelers seeking more convenient and faster travel options between the UK and Belgium. This service is expected to enhance connectivity and potentially boost tourism and business travel between the two cities. However, the lack of direct return services highlights logistical challenges in international train travel, particularly concerning border and customs facilities. The new service could influence future infrastructure developments to accommodate direct international train services.
