What's Happening?
A Philadelphia family has been reunited with their dog, Forty, 11 years after he was stolen from their backyard. The terrier-type mix was taken in May 2015, and despite the family's efforts to find him, he remained missing until recently. The family had
moved to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, but updated Forty's microchip information just two months ago. ACCT Philly, the city's animal care and control service, found Forty wandering and was able to contact the family thanks to the updated microchip. The family was overjoyed to be reunited with their long-lost pet.
Why It's Important?
This heartwarming reunion underscores the importance of microchipping pets and keeping their information up to date. It highlights the role of animal care services in reuniting lost pets with their owners, emphasizing the need for pet owners to utilize available resources. The story also serves as a reminder of the emotional bonds between pets and their families, and the hope that can persist even after many years. For animal welfare organizations, this case illustrates the impact of their work and the importance of community awareness in reporting and scanning found animals.
