What's Happening?
Destination NSW is accelerating its efforts to grow visitor numbers from India and Southeast Asia, key markets that accounted for a significant portion of international visitors and expenditure in New
South Wales. The agency hosted the Focus India & Southeast Asia event, connecting tourism suppliers with 60 influential travel buyers from these regions. The event included workshops, networking, and familiarization programs showcasing NSW's diverse attractions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to capture demand from fast-growing travel markets and support the state's visitor economy.
Why It's Important?
The focus on India and Southeast Asia is crucial for NSW's tourism sector, as these regions represent high-potential markets with increasing outbound travel. By targeting these markets, Destination NSW aims to boost international visitor numbers, enhance tourism revenue, and create jobs. The initiative aligns with the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy, which aims for $91 billion in visitor expenditure by 2035. Successful engagement with these markets can lead to repeat visitation and regional dispersal, supporting sustainable growth and economic development across the state.
