What's Happening?
New Haven has reopened the renovated Trowbridge Recreation Center at 160 Carlisle St. in the Trowbridge Square section of the Hill. Formerly known as the Barbell Club, which closed in 2008, the building has undergone extensive revitalization efforts by
the Elicker administration since 2022. The center had a soft opening on August 10, with an official grand opening planned for September. Currently, the Elderly Services Department is utilizing the space as a drop-in resource center for seniors, offering socialization opportunities and assistance with services like the renters’ rebate program and farmers’ market nutrition program. Once fully operational, the center will significantly expand its programming to include arts and crafts, yoga, tai chi, line dancing, and other group activities for seniors. Additionally, a youth drop-in center, managed by the Youth and Recreation Department, is slated to begin operations on September 8, providing a space for young people to socialize and engage in various activities.
