What's Happening?
B+H Architects, in collaboration with East China Architectural Design & Research Institute (ECADI), has been selected to design the new Shenzhen Children’s Hospital and Science and Education Building. The design emphasizes integration with the natural
landscape, featuring multiple sky gardens and a vertical 'secret garden' to provide a calming environment for patients and their families. The hospital will be located west of the existing Shenzhen Children’s Hospital campus and will incorporate research, education, and patient care spaces to foster collaboration. The design takes inspiration from the surrounding mountains, with a terracing approach that allows for the inclusion of green spaces throughout the building.
Why It's Important?
The innovative design of the new Shenzhen Children’s Hospital reflects a growing trend in healthcare architecture that prioritizes patient well-being and environmental sustainability. By incorporating natural elements and green spaces, the hospital aims to create a healing environment that can improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall healthcare experience. This approach aligns with global efforts to integrate nature into urban settings, promoting mental health and reducing stress for patients and staff. The project also highlights the importance of collaboration between architectural firms and healthcare providers in creating spaces that support both medical and educational functions.
