What's Happening?
Med Marine has successfully delivered the tugboat Dougga, the fourth vessel in a series of six RAmparts 2800 series ASD tugboats, to Tunisia's Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports (OMMP). The delivery
took place at Med Marine's Ereğli Shipyard and is part of a fleet renewal program initiated under a contract signed in November 2023. The Dougga, named after an ancient Tunisian city, is designed by Robert Allan Ltd. and features advanced capabilities, including a 60-tonne bollard pull and Class FIFI-E standards for firefighting readiness.
Why It's Important?
The delivery of Dougga marks a significant step in strengthening maritime operations between Türkiye and Tunisia. This fleet renewal program enhances Tunisia's port capabilities, supporting economic growth and improving maritime safety and efficiency. The advanced design and engineering of the tugboats reflect a commitment to modernizing Tunisia's maritime infrastructure, which is crucial for facilitating trade and supporting the country's economic development. The partnership between Med Marine and OMMP also underscores the importance of international collaboration in advancing maritime technology and operations.
What's Next?
With the successful delivery of Dougga, the focus will shift to the completion of the remaining two vessels in the program. This ongoing project will continue to bolster Tunisia's maritime capabilities, potentially leading to increased trade and economic opportunities. The collaboration between Med Marine and OMMP may also pave the way for future projects, further enhancing the maritime partnership between Türkiye and Tunisia. As the program progresses, stakeholders will likely monitor its impact on regional maritime operations and economic growth.
