The health minister of the Isle of Man, Claire Christian, has announced that options are being considered to reinstate morning-only services for patients with minor injuries at Ramsey Cottage Hospital during weekends starting mid-November. This comes
after the minor injuries unit (MIU) was closed at weekends due to staff shortages. The closure, initially temporary, was extended to save costs associated with hiring agency staff. Christian clarified that the Manx Care board had approved a six-month extension to the closure, which was due to staffing difficulties at both Ramsey Cottage Hospital and Noble's Hospital. Despite modest improvements in staffing, there are still insufficient nurses to keep both units open safely seven days a week. The health care provider is exploring options to enable weekend openings during mornings only, including an X-ray provision.
