What's Happening?
UNESCO and YouTube have strengthened their collaboration on YouTube Edu, an initiative designed to connect schools to the digital world through educational videos. This program curates and organizes educational content based on technical and pedagogical
criteria, aligning with Brazil’s National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and the principles of the 2030 Agenda. The initiative, originally launched in 2013, underwent a significant restructuring starting in 2021. Initially focused on upper secondary education and preparation for Brazil’s National High School Examination (ENEM), YouTube Edu has now expanded to include the final years of lower secondary education. The collection of videos has been reorganized according to competencies, knowledge domains, and curriculum components established by the BNCC. The revised curation criteria emphasize pedagogical quality, language appropriateness, diversity, accessibility, technical quality, and alignment with learning objectives. This expansion and refinement aim to address the growing reliance of students and teachers on digital platforms for learning, ensuring access to reliable and pedagogically sound content.
