What's Happening?
The Greater Cleveland Aquarium recently celebrated a significant milestone by welcoming its 3 millionth visitor on November 21, just weeks before its 14th anniversary. The aquarium, which opened in January 2012, is home to approximately 3,600 fresh and saltwater
animals across its 65,000-square-foot facility. The milestone visitor, Stacey R., along with her family, received a three-year membership and a $300 aquatic-themed gift basket. The aquarium continues to expand its collection, having recently added 75 animals from 11 different species to its shark seatube. The facility is known for its 175-foot underwater tunnel that offers visitors an immersive experience with various marine species.
Why It's Important?
The achievement underscores the aquarium's role as a key attraction in Northeast Ohio, contributing to local tourism and education. By reaching this milestone, the aquarium highlights its success in engaging the community and fostering an appreciation for marine life. The facility's educational programs, which reach about 15,000 young learners annually, play a crucial role in inspiring future generations about conservation and marine biology. The continued support from visitors allows the aquarium to invest in its conservation mission and enhance its exhibits, thereby maintaining its status as a vital cultural and educational resource in the region.
