What's Happening?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India emphasized the importance of human-centric artificial intelligence at the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi. The summit, attended by representatives from over 100 nations, showcased cutting-edge AI products
and services. Modi highlighted AI's potential to transform human intent into action, advocating for AI to prioritize human well-being. He introduced the MANAV framework, which stands for Moral and Ethical Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive, and Valid and Legitimate, to guide AI governance. Modi stressed the need for AI to serve humanity, not just machines, and called for global standards to ensure authenticity in digital content.
Why It's Important?
The emphasis on human-centric AI reflects a growing global concern about the ethical implications of AI technologies. By prioritizing human welfare, India positions itself as a leader in responsible AI development, potentially influencing international standards and practices. This approach could mitigate risks associated with AI, such as deepfakes and mass surveillance, while promoting innovation that benefits society. India's focus on inclusive AI development may also enhance its technological leadership and economic growth, as it leverages its large youth population and tech talent to drive AI advancements.
