What's Happening?
Herzog Academic College, in collaboration with the Shekel Association and Israel's Ministry of Welfare, has successfully graduated a group of students with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and autism as teaching assistants. This marks the completion of a vocational-academic
program aimed at integrating individuals with disabilities into the education system. The program, one of only two of its kind in Israel, provides vocational training on an active academic campus, allowing participants to study alongside future early childhood and special education teachers. The graduates are set to begin paid work as teaching assistants in schools, supported by a practicum framework that offers continued guidance from Herzog College. This initiative not only provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities but also addresses staffing needs in Israeli schools.
