India and Afghanistan have agreed to deepen their cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, livestock, and agri-trade during a visit by Afghanistan's Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlawi Ataullah Omari, from July 7 to July 12. This
visit marks the fourth ministerial-level engagement between the two nations since October 2025, highlighting growing diplomatic ties. Discussions with India's Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan focused on ongoing cooperation and new areas of collaboration, including agricultural research, education, and capacity building. The talks also emphasized food security, seed system strengthening, and crop productivity improvements. India reiterated its commitment to supporting Afghanistan's agricultural sector through initiatives like climate-resilient and bio-fortified crop varieties, sustainable irrigation, and watershed development. The Afghan minister also engaged with India's Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan to discuss value addition, infrastructure development, and technology transfer.
