What's Happening?
The Aurora Historical Society's exhibit, 'Play Ball, Aurora,' which showcases the city's baseball and softball history, is set to close this weekend. Since its opening in June, the exhibit has attracted hundreds of visitors each month to the David L.
Pierce Art and History Center in downtown Aurora. The exhibit features historic photos, uniforms, trophies, and awards from various local teams, including champion fastpitch softball teams like the Sealmasters and the Home Savers. A special closing reception is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Art and History Center.
Why It's Important?
The closure of the 'Play Ball, Aurora' exhibit marks the end of a significant cultural event for the Aurora community, particularly for sports enthusiasts and historians. The exhibit has served as a valuable resource for understanding the local sports heritage and has fostered community engagement through its historical displays. The end of the exhibit may impact local interest in preserving sports history and could lead to increased efforts to document and celebrate Aurora's athletic achievements in other forms.
What's Next?
Following the closure of the exhibit, the Aurora Historical Society may explore other ways to engage the community with local history, potentially through new exhibits or digital archives. The society's efforts to preserve and promote Aurora's sports history could continue through collaborations with local sports teams and educational institutions. Community members interested in the city's sports legacy may seek alternative venues or events to celebrate and learn about Aurora's athletic past.
