What's Happening?
A new road has been opened through the Ghartibhir cliffs, connecting Diktel Bazaar with the Sagarmatha Highway via Ahale and Regmitar. This project, completed with financial support from the Koshi Province Government, cost NPR 10.778 million. The road provides
a significantly shorter route for travelers and vehicles, reducing the travel distance by 17.5 kilometers compared to the previous route. The construction involved breaking through massive rock faces using heavy machinery, a task completed by Kamala Construction and Suppliers. The road was officially inaugurated by former Koshi Province Minister Bhupendra Rai, marking a major infrastructure development in the region.
Why It's Important?
The opening of this new road is a critical development for the region, as it enhances connectivity and reduces travel time between Diktel and the eastern Terai. This infrastructure improvement is expected to facilitate smoother transportation of goods and passengers, boosting local economies and improving access to essential services. The road's completion also demonstrates effective use of provincial government resources to overcome challenging terrain, setting a precedent for future infrastructure projects. By providing a more direct route, the road is likely to reduce transportation costs and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the area.
What's Next?
With the road now open, authorities are preparing to allow regular vehicular traffic. Additionally, construction of a motorable bridge over the Dikhuwa Khola is underway, which will further enhance the road's utility by ensuring year-round accessibility. The completion of this bridge, funded with a provincial budget of NPR 30 million, is expected to eliminate monsoon-related disruptions. As the road becomes fully operational, it will likely attract more investment and development opportunities to the region, further integrating it into the broader economic framework of the province.
