Hunger Action Heroes Unite! (HAHU), a social enterprise of Feeding San Diego, has launched a free National Challenge aimed at engaging students in grades four through nine across all 50 states and D.C. The initiative encourages students to take action
against hunger and food waste in their communities. Through an original comic book and a standards-aligned curriculum, HAHU educates students on these issues and the power of empathy. The challenge invites participants to identify a way to fight hunger or food waste, take action, document their efforts with pictures and video, and reflect on their impact. Entries are accepted through March 12, 2027. The program highlights the significant need, noting that food waste at schools is estimated at $1.7 billion annually, while one in five children in America face hunger, often in the same cafeterias where food is discarded.
