What's Happening?
The Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), a department under Pakistan's Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, is set to export a workforce to Kuwait. The OEC is currently collecting
necessary documents from candidates who meet the qualifications and experience required for the positions. The demand includes roles such as HTV drivers and helpers, specifically for males aged 21 to 39. The employment contract is for two years, renewable under Kuwaiti labor laws, with an eight-hour workday, six days a week. The company will provide accommodation until the issuance of a Civil ID, and other benefits include government medical insurance, air tickets, and 30 days of paid annual leave. Interested applicants can apply through the OEC's website, with a bank challan fee of Rs. 500 required at the time of application. The deadline for applications is January 20, 2026.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant as it addresses labor shortages in Kuwait while providing employment opportunities for Pakistani workers. The export of labor can help alleviate unemployment in Pakistan and contribute to the country's economy through remittances. For Kuwait, this move ensures a steady supply of skilled labor necessary for its economic activities, particularly in sectors requiring heavy vehicle operation and manual labor. The arrangement also highlights the ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and Kuwait in labor and economic development, potentially strengthening bilateral relations.
What's Next?
The OEC will continue processing applications and coordinating with Kuwaiti employers to finalize employment contracts. Successful candidates will undergo necessary preparations, including visa processing and pre-departure orientations. The initiative may prompt further agreements between Pakistan and other Gulf countries seeking labor, potentially expanding the scope of overseas employment opportunities for Pakistanis.
