What's Happening?
The YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex in Beckley, West Virginia, has installed new state-of-the-art stadium lighting in preparation for the WVSSAC State High School Soccer Tournament. This development
is part of a larger, multi-phase upgrade project at the complex. The initiative was made possible through collaboration between the YMCA of Southern West Virginia, Beckley Area Foundation, Carter Family Foundation, KindVista Foundation, and Legacy FC. According to Jay Rist, CEO of YMCA of Southern West Virginia, the lighting replacement is the first phase of the project, which aims to enhance the facilities at the complex. The upgrade includes replacing all lights at the two stadium fields before the tournament.
Why It's Important?
The installation of new stadium lighting at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it enhances the experience for athletes and spectators during events, particularly the upcoming WVSSAC State High School Soccer Tournament. Improved lighting can lead to better visibility and safety during games, which is crucial for high school sports. Additionally, the project reflects a commitment to community development and investment in local sports infrastructure. By upgrading the complex, the YMCA and its partners are supporting local sports and providing a better environment for youth activities, which can have positive social impacts.
What's Next?
Following the completion of the first phase, the project will continue with two more phases. Phase Two is scheduled to begin next summer and will focus on upgrading security, parking, and pathway lighting at the complex. Phase Three is planned for the summer of 2027, further enhancing the facilities. These improvements are expected to attract more events and visitors to the complex, boosting local tourism and community engagement. Stakeholders, including local foundations and sports organizations, will likely continue to collaborate to ensure the successful completion of the project.
