What's Happening?
Embark Studios has announced a free 'server slam' test for its upcoming extraction shooter, Arc Raiders, available on all platforms from October 17-19. This test is open to everyone aged 16 and up, marking
the final major test before the game's official launch on October 30. Players will have access to the Dam Battlegrounds map, featuring flooded lowlands and forgotten structures, and can play solo or in squads. The test will include modifiers like electromagnetic storms and introduce players to NPCs known as The Traders of Speranza, who serve as quest-givers and merchants. Progress made during the test will not carry over to the full launch, but participants can earn a Server Slammer backpack by connecting an Embark ID.
Why It's Important?
The free test for Arc Raiders is significant as it allows Embark Studios to stress test its systems and gather feedback from a wide player base before the official launch. This approach helps ensure a smoother launch and addresses potential issues early. The timing of Arc Raiders' release, shortly after EA's Battlefield 6, positions it in a competitive market, where successful execution and player satisfaction are crucial for standing out. The test also serves as a marketing tool, generating interest and engagement among potential players, which can translate into higher sales and a stronger community upon release.
What's Next?
Following the server slam test, Embark Studios will likely analyze player feedback and server performance data to make necessary adjustments before the game's launch. The studio may also continue to engage with the community through updates and additional content to maintain interest and address any issues that arise post-launch. As the release date approaches, marketing efforts may intensify to maximize visibility and attract more players.
