What's Happening?
The Ministry of Agriculture in Liberia, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has launched the 'One Country One Priority Product' initiative at the National Agriculture Fair.
The initiative aims to transform Liberia's agricultural sector by focusing on key value chains, such as Liberia Coffee, to enhance food security and economic growth. FAO Director General Qu Dongyu emphasized the importance of a unified eco-food system to make agriculture more efficient and sustainable. The initiative is expected to create new job opportunities, attract private investment, and expand Liberia's presence in the international coffee market.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant for Liberia's economic transformation, as agriculture is a cornerstone of the country's economy, with 65-75% of the population engaged in farming. By prioritizing specific agricultural products, Liberia aims to improve food security, reduce poverty, and drive economic growth. The focus on Liberia Coffee and other key value chains is expected to enhance the country's agricultural output and competitiveness in global markets. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to build a resilient food system and create sustainable economic opportunities for Liberians.
