What's Happening?
A couple, Jaibalaji and Kalavathi, were arrested by the Madurai City Police on charges of cheating and criminal intimidation of a real estate promoter, S. Seetharaman. The arrest follows a complaint lodged in October 2025, detailing events that began
in August 2023. Jaibalaji allegedly contacted Seetharaman, requesting the allocation of two plots in Ponmeni, claiming connections with former Madurai Mayor Indrani’s husband, Ponvasanth. Despite Seetharaman's business focus on selling built houses, Jaibalaji promised to facilitate underground drainage and water facilities for the layout, threatening business trouble if demands were not met. Seetharaman registered two plots in Kalavathi’s name in September 2024, but Jaibalaji failed to deliver on his promises. The situation escalated after Ponvasanth's dismissal from his party, leading to further threats from Jaibalaji.
