What's Happening?
The Alcoa Foundation has announced grants to two Pittsburgh-based organizations, the Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, aimed at expanding STEM/STEAM learning
opportunities for underserved students. The grants are part of Alcoa Foundation's mission to positively impact communities where Alcoa operates. The Rivers of Steel grant will support the Full STEAM Ahead program, offering K-12 students immersive experiences in metal arts, environmental science, and industrial history at the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation grant will fund the prototype phase of the Science Champions program, developed with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. This initiative will design and test curriculum and classroom kits aligned with Pennsylvania's new STEELS science standards and West Virginia's College Readiness program, engaging 40 educators and their students across 36 schools.
