What's Happening?
Tertulia, a book discovery and e-commerce platform, is set to launch Tertulia for Authors (TFA) on November 18. This new service aims to assist authors in creating and managing their online presence. The TFA site-builder allows authors to generate a basic
landing page using their ISBN number, which includes subpages for bio, reviews, contact info, and blog posts. The tool, which has been in beta since April 2025, has already attracted over 10,000 accounts and 3,500 paying subscribers. Tertulia's CEO, Sebastian Cwilich, describes the service as an extension of their existing e-commerce efforts, particularly in coordinating pre-order campaigns for authors. The platform is designed to be user-friendly, requiring no HTML knowledge, and offers pre-loaded templates for easy customization.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Tertulia for Authors is significant as it provides a valuable tool for authors, especially those who are self-published and may lack mainstream distribution. By simplifying the process of creating an online presence, TFA helps authors connect with readers and potentially increase their book sales. This service also supports the broader book ecosystem by enabling authors to engage directly with their audience. For Tertulia, this expansion into author services could strengthen its position in the book industry by attracting more authors and readers to its platform, thereby increasing its user base and revenue streams.
What's Next?
Tertulia plans to officially launch the TFA site-builder with a demo webinar in collaboration with Ingram Content Group. The company anticipates continued growth in user adoption, driven by recommendations from publishers and the appeal of supporting a healthier book ecosystem. As more authors utilize the platform, Tertulia may further develop its services to include additional features or integrations that enhance the author-reader connection.
Beyond the Headlines
The introduction of TFA highlights a shift towards empowering authors in the digital age, where having a strong online presence is crucial for success. This development may encourage other platforms to offer similar services, fostering a more competitive and innovative environment in the publishing industry. Additionally, Tertulia's cooperative model, which allows members to hold a stake in the company, reflects a growing trend of community-driven business models that prioritize stakeholder engagement and support.
