What's Happening?
The Department of the Air Force (DAF) has announced the selection of Radiant Industries, Westinghouse Government Services, and Antares Nuclear to develop and operate nuclear microreactors at Buckley Space Force Base, Malmstrom Air Force Base, and Joint
Base San Antonio. This initiative is part of the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) program, which aims to have at least one advanced nuclear reactor operational on a military installation by 2030, with some developers targeting 2028. The program, launched in collaboration with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), seeks to enhance energy resilience and support global military operations. The selected bases were chosen based on extensive site analysis, considering factors like utility infrastructure and mission requirements.
