What's Happening?
In Hosur, Tamil Nadu, more than 10,000 farmers gathered for a seminar focused on tree-based agriculture, organized by Cauvery Calling, an initiative of Isha Outreach. The event featured Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh
Chouhan and Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru. Discussions centered on the benefits of tree-based farming, including increased farmer incomes and improved water availability. Sadhguru emphasized the need for policy changes to allow farmers to grow and sell trees without government restrictions. Agricultural scientists and farmers shared successful examples of tree-crop farming.
Why It's Important?
The seminar highlights a growing interest in sustainable agricultural practices that could significantly impact farmer livelihoods and environmental conservation. Tree-based farming offers a potential solution to water scarcity and income instability in rural areas. By promoting such practices, the initiative could influence future agricultural policies, encouraging a shift towards more sustainable and profitable farming methods. This approach aligns with broader environmental goals and could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
