Sparkle, a leading international service provider in Italy, and Valencia Digital Port Connect (VDPC), a Spanish telecommunications infrastructure company, have announced a strategic agreement to land the
Barracuda submarine cable at Sparkle's Genoa Landing Platform. The Barracuda project aims to establish a direct high-capacity, low-latency submarine route between Spain and Italy, spanning 1,070 km from Valencia to Genoa. The cable will feature 12 fiber pairs, each with a capacity of 32 Tbps, and is expected to be operational by 2028. This project, with an estimated investment of €100 million, will enhance connectivity between major European hubs and the growing West African market. Sparkle will also acquire infrastructure assets on the Barracuda system, further strengthening its strategic presence in the Mediterranean region.
